Speech Therapy
The purpose of speech therapy is to identify, assess, and treat speech and swallowing difficulties. These problems can limit one's ability to understand information from the outside world, can limit one's expression of thoughts and needs, and can prevent a person from getting adequate nutrition or from protecting their lungs from infection.
Glenwood's Speech Therapy staff can assist adults with a variety of specific problems:
- Articulation disorders (trouble saying certain words or making certain sounds)
- Dysfluency (stuttering)
- Early language stimulation
- Voice and resonance disorders resulting from stroke, trauma, or nerve damage
- Aphasia (inability to speak) resulting from stroke or brain injury
- Motor-speech disorders such as apraxia, dysarthria and sysphagia
Upon admission, our speech therapist will screen you to determine if speech therapy is needed. If it is, they will consult with your physician to customize a treatment program. Possible treatments might include:
Auditory Comprehension Exercises
